Another from my series of photos captured hiking through Skaftafell. Svartifoss is the most popular destination in the national park. The black basalt columns that surround the falls are so unique and captivating. This photo was taken a good distance back from the main view points (which tend to be a bit more crowded), and I never got closer to the falls than this as I was desperately trying to get to an overlook called Sjónarnípa to capture my panorama ‘Glacial Tongue’. So I didn’t think much of this photo (and I believe it is handheld, which is a rarity for me in the field). But something about the dark basalt teeth and the lovely S-curve of rock against foliage, really just out to me once I’d imported the shots to my computer, making Svartifoss a worthy addition to the collection.
